As part of activities to commemorate the World Teachers' Day celebration, the nicknamed Teachers Friendly Governor, His Excellency, Ayodele Fayose of has added a new beacon of political offices to the educational system in the state.
In the seemingly spirit of teachers appreciation and better service delivery and encouragement, Governor Fayose has decided to introduce certain key positions to the educational system of Ekiti State, Nigeria. He has introduced the positions of Headmaster General for the primary education system, and also introduced Tutor General in the three senatorial districts of the state, for the post-primary education system.
According to the newly introduced posts and the system, there is now one Headmaster General for the whole state and whose state political position is now equivalent to that of a Permanent Secretary in the state ministries. And in the spirit of political elevation, the new office holder (Mrs Ajayi, who wasn't of sound health at the time of appointment) was given a car gift by the state governor. The legal condition of holding the office is that whoever holds the post would be someone whose tenure of retirement from civil service wouldn't be anymore than two years to constitutional discharge from active service.
For the positions of Tutor General, three people from three different secondary schools from the three different senatorial zones of the state, were appointed according to their assessments and credibility. Their durations in office is a bit different from that of Headmaster General but each of them has a two-year tenure in office. It was not made clear by the governor if their ascension to office is also considered with the 2-year-to-retirement mandate of the Headmaster General.
However, to appreciate and encourage the teachers contribution to the educational sector and society at large, the governor amicably made car prizes each, to both the best teacher in the primary and secondary schools of the state. These car prizes were done in a raffle draw manner. The state has 16 local government areas. Each local government area was represented by one nominee. So, the raffle draw was done by having 15 of the 16 LGA with NO (concealed) ticket, while only one which is the winner has a YES. In the primary school session, a woman picked the YES and emerged winner while in the secondary school, a young man emerged winner. But coincidentally, both winners emerged from both primary and secondary schools of the same local government area.
For avoidance of political imbroglio emanating after the occasion, the governor boldly reiterated that the car prizes/donations were not burdened on the state government's coffers. According to him, some well wishers of the state who prefer to be anonymous, sponsored the car prizes/donations. They promised to repeat the gesture every year as they have done this year, on same and similar occasions
