The 22 year old beauty queen was crowned onstage at the competition’s grand finale at the Excel London ICC Auditorium.

Strauss, the daughter of a doctor and nurse, is a fourth-year medical student who put her studies on hold. She said becoming Miss South Africa and later Miss World and studying medicine were her childhood dreams. Now it can be said with ease that 75% of her childhood dream has already be achieved at a tender age of 22. The complement of her total dream now lie in her academic pursuit.

According to her, many people in her town always refer to her as Little Strauss. This could be customized otherwise to mean that people from her town never believe she could climb to the stardom and fame she just attained recently because of her tender and moderate stature.

Miss Hungary; Edina Kulcsar was named the 1st runners-up, while Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit came as the 2nd runner-up in the beauty pageant .

This is another new credit to Africa as the last Miss World from the continent in the last 13 years came from Nigeria in 2001 when Miss Agbani Darego danced home with the crown.
