The earlier we know what we stand to gain in unity instead of disintegration and unwarranted chaos, the better for our progress and tranquility. As far as we know that there is every attempt to divide us through ethical and religious line, the better for our cooperation and attitudinal change.

Strange Traffic Jam Of 24th December

Pandemonium of a Standstill Resulted From Impatience and Carelessness of Commuters!
By: SADOH M.S.

It started like a mock hold-up but when we thought it was something that will last for minutes, just like the normal traffic slow movement, we sat still in our bus; until we couldn't hold up after 30 minutes of sitting-still, we decided to ask questions. We stepped down from our bus to do this questions which almost turned rhetorical.

This is all about our ordeal at Koton Karfi, the headquarters of Kogi LGA of Kogi State; a town of about 3 kilometres to the famous Murtala Muhammed Bridge on the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway. Normally, the cause of any traffic jam or traffic slow movement is commonly attributed to either diversion at a junction, or road construction diversion or military or police check-point. But the strange notion about this traffic jam at Koton Karfi that lasted for more than 6 hours on 24th December, 2014, was that: no diversion from any junction; no diversion from any road construction; and the army sentry which is stationed at about 100 metre from the Bridge was not responsible for the traffic jam!

Court Fixes Date For Prophet TB Joshua's Hearing

An Ikeja High Court has fixed a date to hear the application filed by the Registered Trustees of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) and its founder, Prophet Temitope Joshua to dismiss the inquest proceedings.

ThisDay reports that Justice Lateefa Okunnu, fixed December 22, 2014 for the hearing after counsel to SCOAN, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and lawyer to the Lagos State government; Femi Adamson had intimated the judge of challenges encountered in the exchange of court processes.
Joined as respondent in the suit are the Coroner’s Court of Lagos State and Chief Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe.
Meanwhile, the inquest was inaugurated by the Lagos State Government under the state Coroner’s System Law No.7 of 2007 to investigate what led to the collapse of the six-storey building guesthouse that claimed the lives of about 166 people. The coroner is also expected to take its findings and recommendations to the appropriate authorities
Prophet Joshua and the church in the said application dated November 11, 2014 and marked ID/188MJR/2014 had requested for a judicial review of the coroner’s proceedings, which began on October 13.
In the application filed pursuant to Order 40 Rule 5 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure Rules) 2012, Joshua is seeking “An order of Certiorari to quash the proceedings of the 1st and 2nd respondents in the conduct of the coroner’s inquest into the death of unknown persons in the Synagogue tragedy September 12, 2014 in suit number CR/AL/01/2014 concerning matters, issues and circumstances other than what directly caused the death of the victims and the manner of their death for having been conducted without or in excess of the statutory jurisdiction of the 1st and 2nd respondents.
“A declaration that the decision of the coroner to summon the applicants to give evidence at a time when no materials were placed before the coroner against the applicants is a breach of the applicant’s right to fair hearing. A declaration that the coroner who relied on his personal knowledge of the facts of the case is not a proper person to preside at the inquest into the death of people at the collapsed building of Synagogue Church of All Nations. A declaration that the coroner who relied on extraneous matters not borne out of the records to reach his conclusion that the 2nd applicant is a necessary witness when in fact is not is in breach of the rules of natural justice and fair hearing guaranteed by the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the application read in parts.
It would be recalled that Joshua’s request of a temporary suspension of the inquest probing the September 12, 2014 building collapse at his church, the Synagogue Church for All Nations, SCOAN, was dismissed by the coroner, Magistrate Komolafe.
However,  Joshua had on 11 November, 2014, filed an application asking Komolafe to put on hold further inquisition into the cause of death of the victims of the collapsed building at his church.

U.S. lawmakers were expected on Friday to approve new sanctions on Russian weapons companies and investors in the country's high-tech oil projects, putting more U.S. pressure on President Vladimir Putin for interference in eastern Ukraine.
Late on Thursday, the Senate and House of Representatives unanimously passed the Ukraine Freedom Support Act. A House panel made a small change and sent the bill back to the Senate for a last vote expected as soon as late Friday.
President Barack Obama has said he opposes further sanctions on Russia unless Europe is on board.

The bill, which will be sent to Obama to sign, requires him to apply sanctions on Russian state-owned arms exporter Rosoboronexport and other defense companies Congress says contribute to instability in Ukraine, Georgia and Syria.
It requires Obama to penalize global companies that make large investments in crude oil drilling projects in deep waters and the Arctic.
The penalties go beyond U.S. and EU sanctions imposed in September on the world's largest oil companies such as Exxon Mobil Corp and BP Plc.
The legislation would also provide $350 million in military assistance to Ukraine from 2015 to 2017, and other aid for energy to the country, which has been threatened by cutoffs in natural gas supply from Russia.
Republicans, who control the House and will have a majority in the Senate from January, have criticized Obama's reaction to Russian interference in Ukraine as inadequate.
"The hesitant U.S. response to Russia's continued invasion of Ukraine threatens to escalate this conflict even further," said Senator Bob Corker, a Tennessee Republican, incoming chairman of the foreign relations committee.
The unanimous support for the bill showed a "firm commitment to Ukrainian sovereignty and to making sure Putin pays for his assault on freedom and security in Europe," said Corker, who co-authored the bill with Democratic Senator Robert Menendez, the current head of the panel.
The bill authorizes Obama to penalize the top Russian natural gas producer Gazprom if he determines it is withholding significant natural gas supplies from NATO members or from Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. Lawmakers dropped a measure that would have designated Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova as non-NATO allies of Washington.
Obama on Thursday said slapping fresh sanctions on Russia without a similar move by Europe would be counterproductive.
In Kiev on Friday, Ukraine's defense minister called for a doubling of the military budget to buy weapons abroad and better equip the army to fight Russian-backed separatists in the east.

BBA Hotshot Star-Tayo Denies Getting $350,000 From Any Billionaire

I Didn't Get $350k From Anybody - Tayo Faniran

Big Brother Africa Nigerian finalist Tayo Faniran has denied receiving any $350,000 from Warri  Billionaire Ayiri Emani after coming as first runers-up in the just concluded BBA Hotshot 2014.
The rumour began earlier last week and even became a trend on almost every social media without any evidence or authentication to the trend.
It  was rumoured that Emani gave Tayo USD350,000 after he lost out to Idris at the 2014 BBA finale, as consolation for what all Nigerians believe as 'robbery' on Tayo. Nigerians believed that the massive votes they cast in favour of Tayo were not really credited to him but rather diverted or not recognized. It is now a credence in the mentality of Nigerians that other countries in Africa are clandestinely rebelling against Nigerian representatives at the BBA show recently. Idris, the Hotshot winner from Tanzania who went home with the USD300,000 prize is all the same considered by many Nigerians as also worthy of the prize but not at the expense of Tayo. "Tayo deserved to win...it was a fruad!..." This and many of such unsatisfactory speeches, are now the common expressions from many Nigerians since the conclusion of the BBA Hotshot.
Tayo denied the whole gossip of $350,000 through a tweet; excerpts:
